Completed in Spring 2011 with Professor Werner Goehner and supporting design team Janice Rim, Cathy Won, Alberto Embriz-Salgado, Maria Villaraga, and Hyesoo Rho.
Engendered from the inherent qualities of its milieu—an orthogonal site with a gentle slope towards the west and framed by three avenues—Canopy of Light is a project that aims to revitalize the Cosmo City community with a crèche that will provide children with an enriching educational experience. Organized in a series of thresholds—from public to private, services to education—Canopy of Light frames surrounding views while providing a functional space oriented North-South to take advantage of passive-solar heating in the winter, while large overhangs and a covered walkway provide shade during the summer.
